History
German Young Nature Friends have been initiating Children’s Summits since 2000. The idea of the project appeared as a result of The United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro. The Rio Declaration of 1992 emphasized the key role of youth and children as main actors of sustainable development. The active involvement of children in the protection of environment and decision-making is the main purpose of the Children’s Summits.
The European Teenagers` Summit 2010 in Timişoara was a follow-up to the European Children’s Summit 2009 in Karlsruhe and had a similar structure. German Young Naturefriends are happy to continue the tradition by launching of The Second European Teenagers’ Summit 2011.
